While taking photos of flowers recently, on the side of the road

A girl with three guys yelled, «Mark, I love your band!»

I asked her which one of them was her ex

Which was her new boyfriend, and which one of them would be her future,

Mike said to Robert, «Come on, say something ironical!»

And that planted a seed as to why, toward them, I was comical

To my question, the four of them devilishly grinned

I said, «Nice to meet you all, but I gotta leave, my head is spinning.»

Spinning with what one of the young men said

I said, «I'm middle-aged, and your lives are just beginning

And I remember when I was young like you and everything seemed so nifty.»

He said, «Don't be so down on yourself, you’re the coolest musician we know

who’s in their fifties!»

Tonight the rain’s falling, the sound of the woodburning stove brings me calm

And tonight and all day is over me, I refuse to be fond

I’m at peace drinking water and reading and chewing on lemon balm

Mientras tomaba fotos de flores recientemente, al lado de la carretera

Le pregunte cual de ellos era su ex

Cuál era su nuevo novio, y cuál de ellos sería su futuro,

resto de su vida hombre?

Mike le dijo a Robert: «¡Vamos, di algo irónico!»

Y eso plantó una semilla de por qué, hacia ellos, era cómico.

A mi pregunta, los cuatro sonrieron diabólicamente.

Dije: "Encantado de conocerlos a todos, pero tengo que irme, mi cabeza da vueltas".

Girando con lo que dijo uno de los jóvenes

Dije: «Soy de mediana edad y sus vidas recién comienzan

Y recuerdo cuando era joven como tú y todo parecía tan ingenioso.»

Él dijo: «No seas tan despectivo contigo mismo, eres el músico más genial que conocemos».

¡Quién tiene cincuenta y tantos!»

Esta noche la lluvia cae, el sonido de la estufa de leña me trae calma

Y esta noche y todo el día está sobre mí, me niego a ser cariñoso

Estoy en paz bebiendo agua y leyendo y mascando bálsamo de limón
