It started when my pops moved away from Africa

When to college in America, and met my mom in Canada

Interracial couple, no one would date 'em double

That’s about the time my momma’s stomach grew a bubble

I was still inside, I wasn’t black, I wasn’t white

But to the world I was still a nigga, just a little light

No time for ignorance, I just gotta live my life

Treat everybody with respect and hope that they can get it right

'Cause when I was a youth, my parents moved to California

Said that I would understand it more when I became older

The south was segregated, the East was way behind

It’s not the color of your skin, but what’s inside your mind

The motto that I kept in every house a nigga slept

On every block that I roamed, on every spot I called home

I went to Jr. High with all the Asians and the Blacks

Learned to give respect and expect to get it back

Every time I meet a different race I try to learn somethin'

In the Barrio, eat burritos like it’s nothin'

Keep an open mind, got a lot left to do

Learned to surf from a nigga, learned to rap from a Jew

Gotta spread knowledge every time I’m on stage

This is the book of life, every day’s another page

They wanna keep us divided so that we’re easy to control

So I took the information, and when I watched when I was young

I lot of kids in my classes acted racist and dumb

Only a handful of black kids that went to my school

I overheard them being called the n-word by the cool

And when my back’s turned, I’m a money hungry Jew

I didn’t blame 'em, they just had an ignorant point of view

I’m lucky I got white friends, Puerto Ricans, and Indians

And do business on a mission with a black dude and Mexican

No questions;

treat each other like a family is how we livin'

So when I rap, understand I wanna reach the children

We gotta open up our mind like Cheech & Chong

In a world full of Jimmy the Greek’s and Rush Limbaugh’s

They’re tellin' lies and they love to generalize

Pareja interracial, nadie saldría con ellos dos veces

Todavía estaba adentro, no era negro, no era blanco

El lema que mantuve en cada casa donde un negro durmió

En cada bloque que deambulé, en cada lugar que llamé hogar

Fui a Jr. High con todos los asiáticos y los negros

Aprendió a dar respeto y esperar recuperarlo

Cada vez que me encuentro con una raza diferente trato de aprender algo
