When the world is a mess and children are strapped to the torture machines

And dictators clamp down, sending their troops to the centre of things

That’s when I turn to art and design, the only two things I can truly call mine

When they kill journalists for just doing their job and just telling the truth

And when it’s suddenly fine for the streets to resound with racist abuse

That’s when I turn to art and design, to beautiful things from beautiful minds

And artists who look see visions of alternate universes

And designers have put all this beauty into the things around us

And that’s why I turn to art and design, political things that aren’t yet a

crime

The most beautiful flowers spring, so they say, from the throats of dead kings

And the beautiful powers come when people themselves control the machine

That’s why I turn to art and design, beautiful things that change minds

Cuando el mundo es un desastre y los niños están atados a las máquinas de tortura

Y los dictadores toman medidas drásticas, enviando sus tropas al centro de las cosas.

Ahí es cuando me vuelvo hacia el arte y el diseño, las únicas dos cosas que realmente puedo llamar mías.

Cuando matan a los periodistas solo por hacer su trabajo y solo decir la verdad

Y cuando de repente está bien que las calles resuenen con insultos racistas

Ahí es cuando recurro al arte y el diseño, a las cosas hermosas de mentes hermosas.

Y los artistas que miran ven visiones de universos alternativos

Y los diseñadores han puesto toda esta belleza en las cosas que nos rodean.

Y por eso recurro al arte y al diseño, cosas políticas que aún no son

delito

Las flores más hermosas brotan, según dicen, de las gargantas de los reyes muertos.

Y los hermosos poderes vienen cuando las personas mismas controlan la máquina.

Por eso recurro al arte y al diseño, cosas bonitas que hacen cambiar de opinión.
