The Heathenish Foray - Falkenbach

…In ancient times once rode across the land

A man unknown on a horse of untold grand

Adorned his cape by thirty runes of gold

Of whom the tales since ages unknown told…

…The man arrived at the shore of sea

And gazed onto the nightly sky

His ears could hear and his eyes could see

Two ravens dark as night passing by…

…In a distance far the thunder sounds

And lightnings reached the frozen grounds

His breath ran fast, his heart pounded strong

As the day now came, awaited oh so long…

…Tears will fall and blood will soon be shed

When the dawn heralds the twilight of the day…

Then into battle they will ride with their swords in hand

For a heathenish foray…

…Countless miles he rode through ice and knee-deep snow

Over mountains 'till the landscape changed its face

So he at last arrived where winds blew strong and chill

Like a welcome to all those who trod this place…

…He in cape was wrapped, and with his hammer 'round his neck

He forced his way though he didn’t saw the path

But he did not rest, 'till he had crossed this land of chill

And the storm had calmed, when he stood alone on hill…

…His eyes could see the forrest shining bright

And it’s trees reflected solens golden light

The sound of horns then reached his ears

To welcome him and take away his fears…

…From all their lands the kings, they came

With their retinue of countless men

And the maiden in full armour sat on their horses

Winged, until the right began…

So he rested a while an recovered from his ride

The horizon gleamed by the mighty northers light

And the elder ones sang tales about the past

Of their ancestors pride, that will forever last…

…As the darkness fell and gone was solens light

The silence ruled amongst the men of heathenpride

Who gatheren in a mighty battle-line

And awaited their Gods to give the final sign…

…En la antigüedad una vez cabalgó por la tierra

Un hombre desconocido en un caballo de gran incalculable

Adornó su capa con treinta runas de oro

De quien los cuentos desde edades desconocidas cuentan...

…El hombre llegó a la orilla del mar

Y miró hacia el cielo nocturno

Sus oídos podían oír y sus ojos podían ver

Dos cuervos oscuros como la noche pasando…

…A lo lejos suena el trueno

Y los relámpagos alcanzaron los terrenos helados

Su respiración se aceleró, su corazón latía fuerte

A medida que llegaba el día, esperado oh tanto tiempo...

…Lágrimas caerán y pronto se derramará sangre

Cuando el amanecer anuncia el crepúsculo del día...

Luego a la batalla cabalgarán con sus espadas en la mano

Para una incursión pagana...

…Innumerables millas cabalgó a través del hielo y la nieve hasta las rodillas

Sobre las montañas hasta que el paisaje cambió de rostro

Así que finalmente llegó donde los vientos soplaban fuertes y fríos

Como una bienvenida a todos aquellos que pisaron este lugar...

…Estaba envuelto en una capa, y con su martillo alrededor de su cuello

Se abrió paso a la fuerza aunque no vio el camino

Pero no descansó, hasta que hubo cruzado esta tierra de frío

Y la tormenta se había calmado, cuando él estaba solo en la colina...

…Sus ojos podían ver el bosque brillando intensamente

Y sus árboles reflejaban la luz dorada de los soles

El sonido de los cuernos llegó entonces a sus oídos.

Para acogerlo y quitarle sus miedos…

…De todas sus tierras los reyes, vinieron

Con su séquito de innumerables hombres

Y la doncella con armadura completa se sentó en sus caballos

Alado, hasta que empezó la derecha…

Así que descansó un rato y se recuperó de su paseo.

El horizonte brillaba con la poderosa luz del norte

Y los mayores cantaban cuentos sobre el pasado

Del orgullo de sus antepasados, que durará para siempre...

…A medida que la oscuridad caía y desaparecía era la luz de solens

El silencio reinaba entre los hombres de orgullo pagano

que se reúnen en una poderosa línea de batalla

Y esperaron a sus Dioses para dar la señal final...
