If the dull substance of my flesh were thought

Injurious distance should not stop my way

For then despite of space, I would be brought

From limits far remote where thou dost stay

Not so far, mine eye and heart are at a mortal war

How to divide the conquest of your irresistible sight

When you are here with your poetry

But ah!

Thought kills me that I’m not thought

To leap large lengths of miles when you are gone

These are our sacrifices, roses have thorns and silver fountains mud

But that, so much of earth and water wrought

I must attend time’s leisure with my moan

Let me confess that we two… we must be twain!

Rise with your stateliness, dream of us with open eye

Like waves make towards the shore

Our minutes hasten to their end

Not so far, mine eye and heart are at a mortal war

But ah!

If it were filled with your most high deserts, and with my love?

So long as eyes can see

So long live these lines, these give life to thee

La distancia perjudicial no debe detener mi camino

Porque entonces, a pesar del espacio, sería llevado

Desde límites muy remotos donde te quedas

No tan lejos, mi ojo y mi corazón están en una guerra mortal

Como dividir la conquista de tu irresistible vista

Cuando estás aquí con tu poesía

Pero ¡ah!

Me mata el pensamiento que no soy pensamiento

Para saltar grandes distancias de millas cuando te hayas ido

Estos son nuestros sacrificios, las rosas tienen espinas y las fuentes de plata lodo

Pero eso, tanto de la tierra y del agua labrado

Debo asistir al ocio del tiempo con mi gemido

Déjame confesarte que nosotros dos... ¡debemos ser dos!

Levántate con tu majestuosidad, sueña con nosotros con los ojos abiertos

Como las olas hacen hacia la orilla

Nuestros minutos se apresuran a su fin

No tan lejos, mi ojo y mi corazón están en una guerra mortal

Como dividir la conquista de tu irresistible vista

Cuando estás aquí en tu persona

Pero ¡ah!

Me mata el pensamiento que no soy pensamiento

Para saltar grandes distancias de millas cuando te hayas ido

Mías son las lágrimas pesadas, mía es la pena de tenerte

Entonces, ¿debería compararte con un día de verano?

Eres más linda y más templada

En la distancia mi mente se sumerge en la tuya

¿Quién creerá mi verso en el tiempo por venir?

¿Si estuviera llena de tus altísimos merecimientos y de mi amor?

Mientras los ojos puedan ver

Así que vivan estas líneas, estas te dan vida
