On Growing Older - Strawbs

The scarecrow stood with its head held high admiring the view from the hill

The waterfall scattered its glistening jewels as the heron stood gracefully

still

It seemed I looked without seeing, I failed to grasp what I saw

For all of Nature’s beautiful gifts I blissfully chose to ignore

As sandy beaches and soft swelling tides invite the inquisitive young

And caviar, oysters and pâté de foie invite the discerning tongue

So comes the desire to be lost awhile in the depths of the forest glade

Midst the cool deep greens where ancient oaks cast wondrous spells in their

shade

And if sometimes I feel in retrospect a regret for the waste of my youth

Then I pause to reflect that I still have time before growing long in the tooth

To achieve all the things that I should have achieved when idleness led me

astray

And being aware of what I have missed, I’m extending my use of the day

El espantapájaros se quedó con la cabeza en alto admirando la vista desde la colina.

La cascada esparció sus relucientes joyas mientras la garza se erguía con gracia

quieto

Parecía que miraba sin ver, no alcanzaba a captar lo que veía

Para todos los hermosos regalos de la naturaleza, elegí felizmente ignorar

Mientras las playas de arena y las suaves mareas crecientes invitan a los jóvenes curiosos

Y el caviar, las ostras y el paté de foie invitan a la lengua exigente

Así viene el deseo de perderse un rato en las profundidades del claro del bosque

En medio de los frescos y profundos verdes donde los antiguos robles lanzan hechizos maravillosos en su

sombra

Y si a veces siento en retrospectiva un arrepentimiento por el desperdicio de mi juventud

Luego hago una pausa para reflexionar que todavía tengo tiempo antes de que me crezca mucho el diente

Para lograr todas las cosas que debí haber logrado cuando la ociosidad me llevó

por mal camino

Y siendo consciente de lo que me he perdido, amplío mi uso del día
