I don’t have a crystal ball but if I did it wouldn’t tell the future.

But I’d have a fistful of sloppy notes

from studying the past in the crystal.

I’d see us in there trying not to break because we believed the lore

That taught us we were fragile things, as if we didn’t have a core.

I’d see us in there shattering, glass bark ground to powder,

Cold air hits the heartwood and the sap flows,

Wants to stick it back together.

Crystalline trees, songs fall like leaves,

And I never knew you until your roots were under my boots.

That bumpy bark reflecting my thousand eyes reflecting

That I never knew you until the heartwood and sap shown through.

But that took a break in that cloudy crystal skin,

And it takes us breaking until we see we do grow again.

And this grove is quaking aspen shimmering and shaking

With the music we’re making, hearts fluttering and breaking.

Faking a million smiles I tried shaking you awake.

Flaking a million times and making sad mistakes.

Hurting so casually you were flirting with the pain.

Learning nothing from it and so it was all in vain.

No tengo una bola de cristal, pero si la tuviera no diría el futuro.

Pero tendría un puñado de notas descuidadas

de estudiar el pasado en el cristal.

Nos vería allí tratando de no rompernos porque creíamos en la tradición.

Eso nos enseñó que éramos cosas frágiles, como si no tuviéramos un núcleo.

Nos vería allí destrozados, la corteza de vidrio convertida en polvo,

El aire frío golpea el duramen y la savia fluye,

Quiere volver a unirlo.

Árboles cristalinos, las canciones caen como hojas,

Y nunca te conocí hasta que tus raíces estuvieron debajo de mis botas.

Esa corteza llena de baches reflejando mis mil ojos reflejando

Que nunca te conocí hasta que se mostró el duramen y la savia.

Pero eso tomó un descanso en esa piel de cristal nublado,

Y nos lleva rompiendo hasta que vemos que volvemos a crecer.

Y esta arboleda es un álamo temblón que brilla y se estremece

Con la música que estamos haciendo, corazones revoloteando y rompiéndose.

Fingiendo un millón de sonrisas, traté de despertarte.

Descamarse un millón de veces y cometer tristes errores.

Doliéndote tan casualmente que estabas coqueteando con el dolor.

No aprendiendo nada de ello, por lo que todo fue en vano.
