Just a Man -

Never saw much of my dad growing up.

We never played ball or had that talk.

He drank too much, was a little too loud.

Mom told him he had to get out.

He said he loved us as he drove away in his truck.

Tried his best to keep in touch.

But across the miles he lost his way.

I prayed that he’d come back someday.

A prayer to my Lord,

Soften his heart and make him Yours.

Christ is the way, the truth, and the life.

No one gets to the father, but through Christ.

Many nights I spent watchin' for headlights.

Lookin' for a truck that never arrived.

I had another Father — He taught me well.

The One with the Son called Emanuel.

Now my son plays baseball too.

I’m always there win or lose.

I thank God for the lessons learned.

And I wish dad was here for one more turn.

A prayer to my Lord,

Mom got a call the other day.

Dad was sober and he had to say —

After thirty years not a day went by

that he didn’t wish for one more try.

Winter’s come, time to say goodbye.

With mom and I standing by dad’s side,

he took my hand and said to me —

Thank you for the prayers, now I see.

Nunca vi mucho de mi papá creciendo.

Nunca jugamos a la pelota ni tuvimos esa conversación.

Bebió demasiado, era un poco demasiado ruidoso.

Mamá le dijo que tenía que salir.

Dijo que nos amaba mientras se alejaba en su camioneta.

Hizo todo lo posible para mantenerse en contacto.

Pero a través de las millas se perdió.

Recé para que volviera algún día.

Muchas noches pasé buscando faros.

Buscando un camión que nunca llegó.

Tuve otro padre, me enseñó bien.

El del Hijo llamado Emanuel.

Ahora mi hijo también juega béisbol.

Siempre estoy ahí gane o pierda.

Doy gracias a Dios por las lecciones aprendidas.

Y desearía que papá estuviera aquí por un turno más.

Mamá recibió una llamada el otro día.

Papá estaba sobrio y tuvo que decir:

Después de treinta años no pasó un día

que no deseaba un intento más.

Llegó el invierno, hora de decir adiós.

Con mamá y yo parados al lado de papá,

me tomó de la mano y me dijo:

Gracias por las oraciones, ahora veo.
