The Cormorant - San Fermin

Morning in your room again

Woken by the children

Playing on the playground

Golden light is streaming in

Floating dust above your bed

A tea cup by the bedside

Waking from a dream in which

Sleeping you are visited

By a great black cormorant

His wings are vast and open wide

Razor beak and diamond eyes

The bird begins to speak

In a voice both harsh and deep

Rising from an ancient sea

Caked in salt and fish scales

He says

«on this morning you will die

But before then you must try

To show me what you were

Tell me who to give your heart

Though it hurts to pull apart

And where to leave your body"

A pressure felt behind the head

Then you float up from your bed

You start to hear the voices

Mañana en tu habitación otra vez

Despertado por los niños

Jugando en el patio de recreo

La luz dorada está entrando

Polvo flotante sobre tu cama

Una taza de té junto a la cama

Despertar de un sueño en el que

Durmiendo eres visitado

Por un gran cormorán negro

Sus alas son vastas y abiertas de par en par.

Pico de navaja y ojos de diamante

El pájaro comienza a hablar.

En una voz a la vez áspera y profunda

Surgiendo de un mar antiguo

Apelmazado en sal y escamas de pescado

Él dice

«en esta mañana morirás

Pero antes de eso debes intentar

Para mostrarme lo que eras

Dime a quién darle tu corazón

Aunque duele separarse

Y donde dejar tu cuerpo"

Una presión que se siente detrás de la cabeza

Entonces flotas desde tu cama

Empiezas a escuchar las voces
