I went out to the hazel wood

Because a fire was in my head

And cut and peeled a hazel wand

And hooked a berry to a thread;

And when white moths were on the wing

And moth-like stars were flickering out

I dropped the berry in a stream

And caught a little silver trout

When I had laid it on the floor

I went to blow the fire aflame

But something rustled on the floor

And some one called me by my name:

It had become a glimmering girl

With apple blossom in her hair

Who called me by my name and ran

And faded through the brightening air

When I am old with wandering

Through hollow lands and hilly lands

I will find out where she has gone

And kiss her lips and take her hands;

And walk among long dappled grass

And pluck till time and times are done

The silver apples of the moon

The golden apples of the sun

salí al avellano

Porque un fuego estaba en mi cabeza

Y corté y pelé una varita de avellano

y enganchó una baya a un hilo;

Y cuando las polillas blancas estaban en el ala

Y las estrellas parecidas a polillas parpadeaban

Dejé caer la baya en un arroyo

Y pesqué una pequeña trucha plateada

Cuando lo había dejado en el suelo

Fui a soplar el fuego en llamas

Pero algo crujió en el suelo.

Y alguien me llamó por mi nombre:

Se había convertido en una niña brillante

Con flor de manzano en el pelo

Quien me llamó por mi nombre y corrió

Y se desvaneció a través del aire brillante

Cuando sea viejo con deambular

A través de tierras huecas y tierras montañosas

Voy a averiguar dónde ha ido

Y besar sus labios y tomar sus manos;

Y caminar entre la hierba larga y moteada

Y arrancar hasta que el tiempo y los tiempos hayan terminado

Las manzanas plateadas de la luna

Las manzanas doradas del sol
