Well I went to church last Sunday

So I could sing and pray

But somthing quite unusual

It happened on that day

Now church, it started right on time

Just like it does without a doubt

And everything was all just fine

Except when it came time to let us out

The preacher he kept preaching

He told us I have one more thing to say

Children before you think of leaving

You’d better think about the Judgement Day

Now everyone got nervous

Because everyone was hungry too

And everyone was wondering

What was the next thing he would do

And the preacher he kept preaching

He said now I’ll remind you if I may

You all better pay attention

Or I might decide to preach all day

And now everyone was getting so hungry

And the old ones started feeling ill

And the weak ones started passing out

And the young ones they could not sit still

And the preacher’s voice rose higher

So I snuck up to the balcony

And I crept into the choir

And I begged them brothers, sisters, help me please

I said when I give you a signal

I said when I raise up my hands

Won’t you please join with me together

And praise the Lord I have a plan

And the preacher he kept preaching

Long is the struggle, hard the fight

And I prayed, Father please forgive me

And then I stood up and with all my might

I sang

«To the Lord let praises be

It’s time for dinner now let’s go eat

We’ve got some beans and some good cornbread

And I listened to what the preacher said

Now it’s to the Lord let praises be

It’s time for dinner now let’s go eat»

Yes and I did give a signal

Yes and I raised up my hands

And then joined with me the choir

Yes every woman, child, and man

They sang

«To the Lord let praises be

It’s time for dinner now let’s go eat

We’ve got some beans and some good cornbread

And I’ve listened to what the preacher said

Now it’s to the Lord let praises be

It’s time for dinner now let’s go eat»

And the preacher he stopped preaching

And a hush the church did fill

And then a great white dove from up above

Landed on the window sill

And the dove flew down beside him

And a fork appeared right in his hand

And with everybody watching

The preacher ate that bird right there and then

And now everyone got really nervous

And the preacher he did start to glow

And as we watched on in disbelief

These were the words he spoke

He said now Mama’s in the kitchen

And she’s been there all day

I know she’s cooking something good

So let’s bow our heads and pray

And he sang

«To the Lord let praises be

It’s time for dinner now let’s go eat

We’ve got some beans and some good cornbread

Now listen to what the preacher said

And the moral of this story

Children it is plain but true

God knows if a preacher preaches long enough

Even he’ll get hungry too

And he’ll sing

Bueno, fui a la iglesia el domingo pasado

para poder cantar y rezar

Pero algo bastante inusual

Ocurrió ese día

Ahora iglesia, comenzó justo a tiempo

Al igual que lo hace sin duda

Y todo estuvo bien

Excepto cuando llegó el momento de dejarnos salir

El predicador que siguió predicando

Nos dijo que tengo una cosa más que decir

Hijos antes de pensar en irse

Será mejor que pienses en el Día del Juicio

Ahora todos se pusieron nerviosos

Porque todos tenían hambre también.

Y todos se preguntaban

¿Qué fue lo siguiente que haría?

Y el predicador siguió predicando

Dijo que ahora te recordaré si puedo

Será mejor que todos presten atención

O podría decidir predicar todo el día

Y ahora todo el mundo estaba tan hambriento

Y los viejos comenzaron a sentirse enfermos

Y los débiles comenzaron a desmayarse

Y los jóvenes no podían quedarse quietos

Y la voz del predicador se elevó más alto

Así que me colé hasta el balcón

Y me metí en el coro

Y les rogué hermanos, hermanas, ayúdenme por favor

Dije cuando te doy una señal

Dije cuando levanto mis manos

Por favor, únete a mí juntos

Y alabado sea el Señor, tengo un plan

Y el predicador siguió predicando

Larga es la lucha, dura la lucha

Y oré, Padre por favor perdóname

Y luego me puse de pie y con todas mis fuerzas

Canté

«Al Señor sean las alabanzas

Es hora de cenar ahora vamos a comer

Tenemos algunos frijoles y un buen pan de maíz

Y escuché lo que dijo el predicador

Ahora es para el Señor que las alabanzas sean

Es hora de cenar ahora vamos a comer»

Sí y yo di una señal

Sí y levanté mis manos

Y luego se unió conmigo al coro

Sí, cada mujer, niño y hombre.

Ellos cantaron

«Al Señor sean las alabanzas

Es hora de cenar ahora vamos a comer

Tenemos algunos frijoles y un buen pan de maíz

Y he escuchado lo que dijo el predicador

Ahora es para el Señor que las alabanzas sean

Es hora de cenar ahora vamos a comer»

Y el predicador dejó de predicar

Y un silencio la iglesia llenó

Y luego una gran paloma blanca desde arriba

Aterrizó en el alféizar de la ventana

Y la paloma voló junto a él

Y un tenedor apareció justo en su mano

Y con todos mirando

El predicador se comió ese pájaro allí mismo.

Y ahora todos se pusieron muy nerviosos.

Y el predicador que hizo comenzó a brillar

Y mientras observábamos con incredulidad

Estas fueron las palabras que pronunció

Dijo que ahora mamá está en la cocina

Y ella ha estado allí todo el día

Sé que está cocinando algo bueno.

Así que inclinemos nuestros rostros y oremos

y el canto

Es hora de cenar ahora vamos a comer

Y la moraleja de esta historia

Niños es simple pero cierto

Dios sabe si un predicador predica lo suficiente

Incluso él también tendrá hambre.
