There was a Pearl at the bottom of the sea

He was a diver like you and me

From a little village built on the sand

Where the people had nothing but faith in the Lord’s hand

In the far-away near, the Pearl was always there

Floating like a dream or like a storm in the air…

And the Pearl grew bigger on the people’s despair

When the divers went to dive they prayed the same sad prayer

«Oh, God, help me find it this time

When I hold it to the light, how the Pearl will shine.»

Early one morning, fates changed everything

Zandro’s baby boy felt the scorpion’s sting

The town doctor just sent them away

«Poor people like you got no money to pay.»

In Maya’s arms, her baby just cried

While Zandro heard the Pearl’s song pounding louder inside

Into his boat he put his wife and child

And paddled out into the ocean wild

«Oh, God, help me find it this time

When I hold it to the light, how the Pearl will shine

Help me Lord, help me Lord, help me Lord, help me.»

When he held it to the light the great Pearl did shine

Evil on evil, sin on sin…

The whole town’s hunger started closin in

The priest came from the churchyard to show his deep concern

The doctor came to visit, now there was money to be earned

His child got better despite the doctor’s pills

Whose plan it was to fake him sick, then pretend to heal his ills

And Maya said, «Let's throw this pearl back to sea

I do believe it’s wicked, it’ll curse our family.»

Oh, God, Zandro couldn’t see the sign

When he held it to the light the Great Pearl did shine

Shimmering, glistening, glimmering, glowing

When he held it to the light, the Great Pearl did shine

With knives they came to steal his precious prize

Zandro killed beneath the starless sky

With blood-stains on his hands they had to flee

But some crushed his boat, so they couldn’t go by sea

They fled into the mountains by moonlight

Three hunters close behind them through the night

Then high up on a rocky mountain side

Zandro found a cave for his family to hide

He spied the hunters camp and wainted 'til they slept

With his knife strapped to his back, down the rocks he crept

Silently for hours, 'til he was almost there

Then just before Zandro planned to leap into the air

High up on the mountain his child made a sound

A gun went off, the song of eveil echoed all around

Oh, Zandro killed the hunters

But it was all to late

One bullet in the darkness

Sealed his child’s fate

Maya took her baby down to the sea

With Zandro by her side, not beleiving such a thing could be…

That his child would never waken fro his sleep

Then Zandro threw the Pearl with all his might

And gave it back to the deep

There was a Pearl at the bottom of the sea

El era un buzo como tu y yo

De un pueblecito construido sobre la arena

Donde la gente no tenía nada más que fe en la mano del Señor

En el lejano cercano, la Perla siempre estuvo ahí

Flotando como un sueño o como una tormenta en el aire...

Y la Perla se hizo más grande en la desesperación de la gente

Cuando los buzos fueron a bucear rezaron la misma oración triste

«Oh, Dios, ayúdame a encontrarlo esta vez

Cuando la dirija a la luz, cómo brillará la Perla.»

Temprano una mañana, el destino lo cambió todo

El bebé de Zandro sintió la picadura del alacrán

El médico del pueblo acaba de despedirlos.

«La gente pobre como tú no tiene dinero para pagar».

En los brazos de Maya, su bebé acaba de llorar

Mientras Zandro escuchaba la canción de Pearl latiendo más fuerte en su interior

En su barca puso a su mujer y a su hijo

Y remó hacia el océano salvaje

«Oh, Dios, ayúdame a encontrarlo esta vez

Cuando lo sostenga a la luz, cómo brillará la Perla

Ayúdame Señor, ayúdame Señor, ayúdame Señor, ayúdame.»

Cuando lo acercó a la luz, la gran Perla brilló

Mal sobre mal, pecado sobre pecado…

El hambre de toda la ciudad comenzó a cerrarse

El sacerdote salió del atrio de la iglesia para mostrar su profunda preocupación.

El médico vino de visita, ahora había dinero para ganar

Su hijo mejoró a pesar de las pastillas del doctor

Cuyo plan era fingir que estaba enfermo y luego pretender curar sus males

Y Maya dijo: «Vamos a tirar esta perla de vuelta al mar

Sí creo que es perverso, maldecirá a nuestra familia.»

Oh, Dios, Zandro no podía ver la señal

Cuando lo acercó a la luz, la Gran Perla brilló

Resplandeciente, reluciente, resplandeciente, resplandeciente

Con cuchillos vinieron a robarle su preciado premio

Zandro asesinado bajo el cielo sin estrellas

Con manchas de sangre en sus manos tuvieron que huir

Huyeron a las montañas a la luz de la luna

Tres cazadores se cierran detrás de ellos durante la noche.

Luego en lo alto de la ladera de una montaña rocosa

Zandro encontró una cueva para que su familia se escondiera

Espió el campamento de los cazadores y esperó hasta que se durmieron

Con su cuchillo atado a su espalda, por las rocas se deslizó

En silencio durante horas, hasta que estuvo casi allí

Luego, justo antes de que Zandro planeara saltar en el aire

En lo alto de la montaña, su hijo hizo un sonido

Se disparó un arma, la canción de Eveil resonó por todas partes

Oh, Zandro mató a los cazadores

Pero fue todo demasiado tarde

Una bala en la oscuridad

Selló el destino de su hijo

Maya llevó a su bebé al mar

Con Zandro a su lado, no creer que tal cosa podría ser...

Que su hijo nunca despertaría de su sueño

Entonces Zandro tiró la Perla con todas sus fuerzas.

Y lo devolvió a lo profundo

Había una Perla en el fondo del mar

Era un buceador como tú y como yo...
