I tried to wear the world

Like some kind of garment

I reach my fingers down inside

Of every single pocket

In fabric stained and torn and ripped

Pulling at the seams, I wander out

Onto the streets and subways

Perhaps so gracelessly

It does not matter to the world if I embody it

It could not matter less that I wanted to be a part of it

Still I fumble with my hands and took

To open it, to part it

I tried to wear the world

Like some kind of jacket

It does not keep me warm, I cannot

Ever seem to fasten it

Bodies never warned not to move

They wanted all of it

The light did stumble down from the sky

In spite of all of it

Why can’t I be the body

Graceful in the cloth of it?

Why can’t you want me for the

I’m already on the ground

I tried to wear each word

Even as careless as it turns out

Everything that I am told
