The crowd cringes and yawns

He’s cut off all his guitar strings

So he’s standing up there alone

Silence were there was once music

While he sings into the microphone

It’s so hard being so close

But still just out of reach

To something in the darkness

She vanished some time in the spring

Most people thought she was dead

Others say that they saw her

Leaving on a midnight jet

Now Orpheus acts like he’s holy

Like grief has given him wings

Searching the globe, looking for her

Tears in his eyes while he sings

It’s so hard being so close

But still just out of reach

To something in the darkness

That the light won’t let me keep

He found her one day in Morocco

Living, breathing and well

Out there writing a novel

A memoir called 'My Life In Hell'

He begged her to follow him home

Saying I’ve come here to save you

She told him to go back alone

Saying 'Baby, it’s over, I’m through'

The night that I left, I found you in bed

With my old roommate Jane

You were under the covers, giving her head

So I walked out and boarded a plane
