It’s the return of the pessimistic optimist, listen/

Who’s constantly driven by the power of positive thinking/

It moves the cogs and the pistons, gives a shock to the system/

From the top I watch them off in the distance/

A pen and pad to me is like a cross to a Christian/

I don’t rate ‘m, I don’t even give ‘em a sympathy vote/

I pull the strings with a singular stroke/

They’re a voice in the choir, they admire me, the symphony’s coach/

You thought I was dead but I’m unzipping the body bag/

And crawling out, I’m calling down upon you for my honour badge/

On a bad day I swallow bitter pills while you lollygag/

I’ve been patient, now I’m back, how’s that for a humble brag?

With open ears I’m hearing clearer than I ever have/

The weather pattern has been interfering with the mental map/

Now the roads are open and I’m steering into heavy traffic/

But I’ve come too far in this to gear it down and pedal backwards/
